Fire Cadets Syllabus

Our Fire Cadets syllabus is designed to celebrate the achievements and personal growth of young people taking part in the programme. It helps develop essential life skills, confidence, teamwork and a sense of citizenship, while building awareness of fire and community safety.

The syllabus is made up of two levels:

Fire Cadets Award One

Award One introduces cadets to the world of fire and rescue. Through practical learning and team activities, cadets begin to develop:

  • Understanding of community and fire safety
  • Awareness of wellbeing and personal responsibility
  • Confidence working with others

This award provides a strong foundation and an exciting first insight into life within the fire and rescue service.

Fire Cadets Award Two

Award Two builds on the skills and knowledge gained in Award One and introduces new themes to broaden the cadet experience. Cadets will learn more about:

  • Fire and rescue operations
  • Leadership and teamwork
  • Citizenship, community engagement and personal development

The focus is not just on fire and rescue skills — it’s also about empowering young people to understand themselves, contribute positively to their communities and prepare for future education, volunteering or employment.

Together, both awards support young people to thrive, learn, and make a real difference — now and in the future.
